So interesting how Cabernet Sauvignon can present throughout the world. Reviews on this are nor great! I guess if I am driven to a Napa Cab..big fruit, vanilla, cedar..(yes I love some of those)...it is easy to not lean to other expressions of CS! This wine is medium bodied, lip smacking and crunchy is where the long finish is at! Showing..plum, blackberry and black cherry; yet the fruit isn't the star! Earth as in dark warm soil, minerals, vegetal greens, tobacco, dark bitter chocolate, iron ore maybe? A smooth wine with amazing nuances to decipher! Old World in style! My tastes are rating this as a 9.0? But I can see why rating on the Costco tent was listed as a 9.3 (Wine Spectator), a lot of layers of complexity, nothing offensive! A very different representation of CS. Decanted for three hours! Alc 14%..maybe that is why I am writing a book! Update day two! Aromas of chocolate chip cookies! Taste has taken off exponentially as well! A very fun wine to explore!

This wine I opened was the 2020 Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon. This is from Coonawarra, Australia from winemakers Kate Goodman & Lauren Hansen. On the nose there is cherry, nkackberry, plum, green bell papper, herbal notes, currant candy and dark rich soil. On the palate is black cherry, nlackberry, black currant, green bell pepper, spice, herbaceous, graphite, cassis, minerality and earth. This is a full bodied wine with a velvety mouthfeel medium,+ acidity and medium + fine grippy tanninsthat move easily into a long black fruit graphite finish. A bery nice easy to drink with loads of appeal. Fall seems to be upon us and the leaves have started changing quickly. Have a great weekend and get outside and enjoy the change of the seasons. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia!

Medium ruby color. Aromas of tomato leaf, eucalyptus, cassis, stewed tomatoes. Dry. Flavors of tomato leaf, cassis, eucalyptus, stewed tomatoes. Richly flavored, but notes are unusual. Might be good for pasta sauce. Intensity: 4/5 Complexity: 3/5 Balance: 3/5 Finish: 3/5

NOSE: mild cassis, dried herbs, fragrant wood, beeswax. Smells pretty good. TASTE: just like the nose, but smoothly integrated together. Oregano and other savoury herbs - olives and bay. The fruit is dried. A little thinner mouthfeel than expected from the nose, but good. Tastes “European.” I got a lot more flavors out of the 2019 but I think I like this better. 91.
