This wine is juicy, spicy and leathery—a celebration of fresh wild strawberries and buzzy acidity. Earth, rose and white pepper flavors add welcome complexity within a tightly woven frame of structure and length.

Spicy with notes of licorice, green pepper, and an almost herbal finish. Peppery with a rounded body that costs the mouth more subtly than the similar Pastorole vineyard.

Spice, pepper, and a lot of body for a Pinot. I really enjoyed this wine, and it kind of struck me as a Pinot trying to be a Syrah.

This was a very flavorful and rich Pinot. It had the smooth accessibility I like in Pinots but I had hints of leather and spice which made it interesting. Definitely could age for a few more years.

On the nose, Asian spices, touch of light pepper, dark cherries, strawberries, cranberries, heavily exacted pomegranate. The fruits are slightly candied and gummy. Soft chalkiness and baking spices of; cinnamon, clove & nutmeg. Deep dark spices on the palate. Pink peppercorns, strawberries, cherries, dark cherries, dry cranberries and pomegranate, soft/light; cinnamon, clove & nutmeg, crushed dry rock powder, soft minerals, loamy soils and a touch of leather. The Quarter Moon was showing more freshness, was richer, fuller body and softer acidity than the Pastorale. Further, the QM had a more consistent polished finish that lasted over a minute. Photos of the barrel display in the back of their main room, terrace area and sloping wines as you drive up to their estate.

I'm a Pinot guy and in the Phelps win club in order to go to Insignia Days and buy Backus. This Pinot was earthy, dark and had the wonderful Pinot fruit taste. I was surprised. It will improve with age. I think I'll buy more.
