The 1970 Palmer is a vintage that I have tasted on several occasions, although recently, I have encountered some variation, including a rather rum example in 2015. The most recent example has an attractive tobacco-infused nose, perhaps more akin to a Saint-Julien than a Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm backbone, a slight dryness around the edges and fine salinity with lightly-spiced cedar and tobacco notes on the finish. This is a solid 1970 Margaux, though I would not keep it long-term. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

Tasted blind. From magnum. Deep dark tawny color, opaque. Notes of cherry cola, earth, black fruit, gravel/stone, red cherries. Seems old, lacking tannin or acidity. My guess was an old Graves bottle from the 30s. This was fun to follow over the evening as it really blossomed in hours 7-9.

Tasted blind. Light tawny but there's a nice brightness in the color. Great old Bordeaux nose. Notes of black raspberry, cherry, moist forest floor, gravel and a little mocha. Amazing complexity in the mouth. This has more going for it in the mouth/finish when compared to the 55 Palmer next to it. The 55 Palmer overall was a better experience, but this was best in class for its complex mouthfeel. Guessed 1961 Palmer.

Still holding on. I think it has reached the twilight of its optimum drinking. Still very enjoyable but it's development is starting to erode the wine.

Sadly, it's corked. But would have been delicious as color and structure are still there.
