Tiziano Mazzoni Ghemme ai Livelli Nebbiolo 2013

$52

The pride of the estate and a gorgeous Ghemme for the cellar. ‘ai Livelli’ is a selection of vines planted in 1968 from within the ‘dei Mazzoni’ vineyard. This extra bit of wisdom translates to deeper, darker berry fruit and more meaty tannins, all wrapped in the supple silk and floral essence that defines the finest Ghemme Nebbiolo.

The 2013 Ghemme Ai Livelli is a wine of real intrigue, especially in its aromatics. The Ai Livelli is not materially different from the Dei Mazzoni in 2013, although it does offer more aromatic intensity and overall structure. Sage, lavender, dried rose petal, mint and crushed red berries are all beautifully lifted. This is such a pretty wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2020)

This has a subtle aroma and not too subtle tannins, which will alienate many.

Don’t mess around with this one. A good wine to the nines.
