What you’ll find at this small family “grower” house is truly vinous Champagne, wines striking in their concentration and complexity. A new wine from this legendary family estate! The “vines of Bisseuil” are mostly Chardonnay, grow on south-facing slopes to the east of the village of Aÿ. An exciting departure from Pinot Noir-based blends, ‘Les Vignes de Bisseul’ is both racy and refined, a thrilling Chardonnay wine (with 10% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier) that showcases all the tension and texture of the best of Egly Champagne.

The nose shows tangerine, thinned yellow peach, golden/red apples, lemon/lime pulp with a hint of zest, pear, whiff of lemon meringue pie, ginger-ale, graham cracker crust, baguette crust, caramel notes, silvered almonds, some light brioche, pink roses & yellow flowers. The palate entry is beautiful, ripe, rich with lively crisp acidity at first and softens in the glass. Some light oxidative presense. Tangerine, some marmalade yellow peach, golden/red apples, lemon/lime pulp with a hints of zest, pear, lemon meringue to custard, ginger-ale, graham cracker crust, baguette crust, yeasty bread dough, vanilla, caramel notes, silvered almonds, some light brioche, beautiful, soft, chalk/sea fossil powder, crisp, grey volcanic minerals, pink roses & yellow flowers. It is extremely well made, balance for days with an elegant softy rich finish that last nearly two-minutes and lands on soft earth & minerals. Disgorged 7/25, 2g making it really a Nature. 36 months on lees. Photos of Egly-Ouriet and Owner and Winemaker Francis Egly.

The NV (2017) Les Vignes de Bisseuil offers up scents of citrus, anise, wild flowers and herbs. I find the vegetal notes and angular contours overpowering. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2023)

Love the new cuvee! Richer than Vrigny, lighter than Ambonnay.

Crazy good. Started like a tart young Chablis but the finish was so memorable. It had some wood, light toast, lemon curd, honey, but the underlying acidity carried through it all. There were white floral notes at times. It tasted of two different chardonnays seamlessly integrated into each other. Disgorged 2021.

Disgorged December 2022. Very lean initially but creamy in the middle with a long lingering mineral laden finish. There is citrus and tropical fruit, a lot of stone and mineral, some apples, touch of custard, but overall a lean machine. Lovely champagne.
