Domaine La Bouïssiere Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

$40

In the sultry south, altitude matters. Wines from Domaine la Bouïssiere hail from some of the highest vineyards in Gigondas, and thus are markedly more balanced, elegant and age-worthy than wines from the lowlands. Estate founder Antonin Faravel once said, “If you want a great Burgundy, buy a young Gigondas and age it.” The family’s high-altitude vineyards showcase old-vine Grenache at its most silky and spicy. A stunningly supple and complexly flavored wine every vintage.

Vivid ruby. The bouquet is made of ripe red berries, cherry and lavender aromas, along with subtle licorice and white pepper flourishes. Broad, fleshy and appealingly sweet, showing juicy raspberry, cherry-cola and baking spice flavors and a touch of succulent herbs. Closes long and smooth, with discreet tannins and a strong floral note. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, January 2023)

2019 vintage. Poppin’ black pepper notes + more bod than a vast majority of Gigondas efforts.
