Diego Conterno Barolo del Comune di Monforte'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2019
A rising star in the southern reaches of the Barolo zone, Diego Conterno and his son, Stefano, craft elegant, lively Nebbiolo wines in Monforte d’Alba. “Comune di” is a new designation in Barolo, a way for winemakers to honor the traditions and character of Barolo’s historic villages. Here Diego and Stefano select older vine fruit from their holdings in ‘Pajana,’ a part of the larger ‘Ginestra’ vineyard, and from ‘Gris,’ both located on the eastern slopes of Monforte.

2019 vintage. Last tasted two years ago 4.3.24 (9.4). Dusty, decaying rose petals in the nose with a hint of quality dark chocolate. Medium body. Pink peppercorns aplenty, some tar, some grilled green onion, orange citrus influence (tangerine?) and Luxardo cherry reduction in the flavors. Only 4 bottles left on the list at $125 a bottle. May hafta take it off the list and buy it all. Currently occupying that weird Barolo space between drinkability and don't you dare. Flashing those tannic, Wolverine adamantium claws now. Leaning more towards the don't even think about it, Bub. This was delicious tho. 4.6.26.
