Christophe Billon Côte Rozier Côte-Rotie Syrah 2019
At the very top of the hill overlooking the northern Rhône town of Ampuis, you’ll find the humble yet rising-star estate of Christophe Billon. Since 1991, Christophe has crafted honest, authentic Syrah wines from the steep, terraced slopes of Côte-Rôtie. ‘Côte Rozier’ is a classic, pure Syrah wine, structured and stately, made for the long haul. ‘Côte Rozier,’ which neighbors ‘La Landonne,’ claims the estate’s oldest vines, planted in 1942 by Christophe’s grandfather, Xavier.

Mental nose. Just mental. Spice, florals, lavender, meat, gravy, wow, just a stunning nose. Just so in your face with all thaf cote rotie love. Under all of that there is a feral and super mineral undertone. Incredible dirt aromas. Just insane. 9.7 nose. Maybe 9.8. Palate is young but awesome. Incredible core of black fruits that are very concentrated with tiny berry fruit intensity and just lovely, dusty tannins. So elegant, long and obviously young but damn this is impressive. Will drink this while I cook dinner. It’s so fine.
