Château de Pibarnon (Comte de Saint Victor) Bandol Rosé Blend 2022

$45

Château de Pibarnon sets the standard for greatness not only in Bandol but also for wines the world over. A full-bodied, blush wine that captures the licorice and berry intensity of Mourvèdre with a touch of silk from Cinsault. When you hear people talk of “serious” rosé, they’re talking about this wine — a full-bodied wine that reaches its peak with a year or two in bottle. Yes, great rosé can age!

Light orange in color. Light nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing raspberries, strawberries, currants, lemons, peaches, spices, sea salt and light earth. Tangy finish with grapefruits and limes. This is a young Rosé from Bandol. Spicy and fruit forward. Elegant with a soft mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and already showing nice complexity. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Good right out of the bottle and good by itself as a sipping wine. A blend of 70% Mourvedre and 30% Cinsault from 45 year old vines. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $40.

Needs air. Better at 60° than 50. Bitter Aperol quality. Viscous. Orange blossom, guava, kiwi, apricot, and gravel. Alcohol stands out a bit. Likely just needs more time.

Vintage 2022 | Proof that rosé can be complex and complete. Salmon colour, spicyness in smell, good acidity and long aftertaste. Great effort. Foodwine.

Medium light salmon pink . Quite discreet nose with strawberries and cream , rose and lightly herbal, garrigue touches . On the palate quite round and juicy , red fruits , strawberry , raspberry , light herbal notes. Ok acidity , good texture and intensity with balanced alcohol . Ok length , but just finishes a little flat, missing perhaps a bit of freshness. This would probably be a good match with food due to its ample texture . Drinking well now and over the next 3-4 years in order to preserve the freshness .
