Xavier makes a tiny amount of St. Joseph from vines outside the village of Chavanay, of which only a few cases make it to the US each year.andnbsp; This is a stunningly pure rendition of Syrah, with savory spice and deep violet undertones on the nose. On the palate this is particularly elegant considering the vintage. It shows great snap and brightness up front and closes with excellent drive and firm, persistent tannins. You might be inclined to decant this if you plan on drinking now, but from our experience it tends to turn inward with more airtime. We'd advise popping and pouring if you plan to enjoy in the near term or lay it down for 5-10 years and watch it unfold with gusto.
