Even though 2016 was the inaugural harvest, Carmelo Vecchio was no stranger either to the wine business on Mt Etna. He put time in at Passopisciaro winery among others and it was his wife Rosa's family who bequeathed them 1ha. of vines, some approaching 130 years old. This is 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% indigenous varieties, red and white. Native yeast fermentation aged in in used 500l oak barrels. Delicate and transparent, this wine hard to resist.

Bright red fruit with good grip. I think this would work better with food rather than just on its own.

Found this had a plastic/brettanomyces nose. Light plum and cherry notes a bit watery/light similar to a Pinot noir. Mouthfeel is plush and a bit chewy/waxy but all in a good way. A cool natty wine.
