Tiberio Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2019

$19.98

Abruzzo in Italy doesn't really have a history of making rose the way they do in Provence, pale and crisp, more similar to white wine than red.andnbsp; In Abruzzo they make Cerasuolo (cherry colored) wine that is like a very deep Rose or a very light red. Christiana Tiberio make an especially good example of Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo that really captures the strong personality of the wine. Dry and crisp but with plenty of texture, it is a great late spring or early fall kind of wine that is wildly drinkable. Very rich cherry fruit and just a touch of tannin make this perfect as a foil for all sorts of food, everything from summer salads to burgers and sausages on the grill.

Lovely, complex, strawberry-rhubarb richer-style rosé from 55+ year old Montepulciano vines in Abruzzo. High acid, tannins (even from just 20 minute maceration), and big fruit make this a great food pairing wine. For us, it was Sicilian-style seafood risotto; a lighter white may have wilted. Tavel fans will find a new home here.

The 2019 Tiberio Cerasuolo is wonderfully fresh and perfumed, showing depths of smoky minerals on the nose, giving way to notes of ripe strawberry and wild flowers, with a hint of crushed limestone and chalk. On the palate, silky textural depths are offset by saline-minerality and brisk acids, as notes of cherry with a hint of orange citrus wash across the senses. The finish is long, with a twang of tart red berry and hints of wild herbs, almost salty, and begging me to take another sip. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020)

Wild ruby, strawberry colour. Light on the nose. Good acid. Fresh and lively. Good food wine.. stands on its own.

Acceptable Rosé, but lacking any lasting flavor that would make it worthwhile. It’s quite acidic, and a little too strong in flavor up front, making it a little medicine-like in flavor.
