Sesti (Castello di Argiano) Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

The vines at Sesti have now entered a perfect period of maturity and Giuseppe's vision has been further fine-tuned by his talented daughter, Elisa, who has been workling alongside him since 1999. The wines are now better than they have ever been and we are convinced the recently released '13 vintage will be a watershed for this special property. This was a banner year with a lengthy, moderate growing season that has produced a Sesti Brunello for the ages. Elisa characterized '13 as a vintage defined by its layering, and we couldn't think of a more appropriate descriptor. The wine is bright and transparent and opens with brambly spice, smoke and savory tones with the first swirl. With a bit of air, sweet red fruits and cherries find their way into the mix. On the palate, the wine is sappy, silky, warming and arrestingly vibrant. There is mountainous substance to this wine despite there not being a single hard edge. That it is as fresh on day 2 after pulling the corkandnbsp;as when it is first openedandnbsp;speaks to its cellar potential, but it's a magical drink already.
