A friend had a “reduction party” as he was needing to thin out his cellar. Definitely a party I’m happy to attend! In my opinion, I feel like it’s tough to judge a producer from this vintage. There is no doubt though that talented winemakers were still able to achieve gorgeous wines, and this meets the threshold. Compared to other ‘11s, this was a bit more dense than expected with nice ripe notes. I have to admit, this reminded me of ripe Bordeaux...it has aromatics of saddle leather, baked red and black fruits, fig, cassis and even some graphite. On the palate, the fruit is slightly muddled and soft, with pipe tobacco, mulberries, dates, and chocolate. Softened tannins at the finish. I’m thinking this may be in its peak drinking window.

OMG. One of the best wines I’ve had. We had this at the tasting in promontory and there is no way I could afford at $900. They don’t participate in a lot of the overly oaked napa cab scene, and some of this grows on metamorphic rock so you get a really interesting mineral taste. Once in a lifetime. Having this at promontory was such a treat because the architecture and lighting is so dramatic too

Robust, fruit forward, smoother than the first time I had it around a year ago.

We decided to do a little east vs west. Blackberry, anise with a touch of coffee and vanilla. Fantastic wine for such a difficult vintage.

Would've been way smarter to taste the '11 separate from the '09 & '12....but I'm not known for restraint in Harlan territory. Again the perfect extraction, nose a bit reticent. Lively, juicier palate, class act but not on the same class as the others.
