Poderi Colla Roncaglie Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

$58.99

The Colla estate was founded in 1994, but the Colla family themselves have deep roots in the Langhe. Beppe Colla is one of the great figures in the region whose legendary career includes numerous landmark achievements: Prunotto gained international esteem under his guidance, he was an architect of the Alba DOC, and most notably was the first to bottle Langhe wine labeled with individual crus. Beppe's brother Tino, along with his son, Pietro, and granddaughter, Federica, founded the firm we know today, drawing on experience from his time alongside Beppe at Prunotto coupled with his intimate knowledge of the Langhe to create passionate wines of terroir steeped in the traditions of the region. The Barbaresco is sourced entirely from the prestigious Roncaglie cru, long regarded as a prime site in the area. Roncaglie is a south and south west facing hillside that is situated near to the Tanaro river, a site that provides a balanced microclimate that allows Nebbiolo to slowly ripen. 2016 is a vintage we've long awaited and if the Poderi Colla Barbaresco is any indication its going to be just as good as we hoped. We were struck by how elegant this wine is, most notably the silky, soft tannins. Bright cherry fruit, roses, and subtle notes citrus are present along with a good kick of acidity that round out this stately Barbaresco.andnbsp; andnbsp;

Excellent with Prossimo Sunday gravy. Raspberry, earthiness, but smooth. Still bright with years to go.
