Florian Lauer, of Weingut Peter Lauer, is one of the most exciting of the next generation producers in Germany, crafting Riesling in the Saar with a signature weightless intensity, His estate is centered on the steep slate-covered hillside of Ayler Kupp, just off the Saar river from which he makes numerous different bottlings in strikingly diverse styles. Unterstenberg is from the lower reaches of the slope in a much warmer site than the Stirn vineyards found 300 feet above.andnbsp; Florian typically prefers to let ripe aromatics take the place of any pronounced sweetness in this cuvee. In 2019 Unterstenberg has a richly spiced nose with notes of ginger and peach as well succulent floral notes. The palate is round and creamy with just a touch of RS leading into quite a dry with tart acidity. andnbsp; Barely off dry.

These labels are so obscure that I’m not sure this identification is accurate. In any case a fine wine. Good acidity, a touch of rs—or at least reads that way. Fairy complex.

Peter Lauer never disappoints. Lovely, lively, mouthwatering acidity. Citrus and green apple.
