Kupp, the home base, is at the core of Ayler Kupp, consisting of vines planted over sixty years ago, a south-facing parcel on top of slate soils. The wines from Kupp are more linear in their youth, with delicate smoky and citrus tones, but unravel into a more complex orchard and stone fruit character with age, fleshing out generously.

Pop and pour, notes from 1.5 hrs open. On the nose: sweet lemon, saffron, soft mineral notes, chalk, lime...so subtle and intemse..utterly sublime. On the palate: fantastic density and dry extract, dense lime and soft pineapple, more chalk, soft salt, thins a bit on the mid, and then the intensity builds again for the finish, which is soft and just caresses the palate. Just a bit short, but this is so young... Wow.

Of course, this was less than the US retail price at a restaurant in the Mosel. Too young but wanted to try. A bit shy aromatically in its youth, perhaps, with a bit of slate and dried fruit popping out. Incredibly mouth filling and deep on the palate. High acidity but very well balanced. Super long finish. Hits every part of the mouth.
