Find a porch to pound it on, because this wine should come with a straw.andnbsp; Pedro Parraandnbsp;has become a household name in the wine world, and is an integral part of Chile's wine renaissance. Parra is known as andldquo;Dr. Terroirandrdquo;, because he holds a PhD in terroir viticolesandnbsp;from the Paris Center of Agriculture and spent years working with some of France's best wineries andndash; including world-class Burgundyandnbsp;producersandnbsp;Louis Michel Liger-Belairandnbsp;andandnbsp;Domaine Roulotandnbsp;andndash; as well as wineries in Italy, Spain, USA, Canada, and Argentina. Five years ago Parra returned to his hometown of Concepciandoacute;n, Chile, nearandnbsp;Itataandnbsp;-andnbsp;a small, remote wine region in the Bio Bio wine region of Southern Chile. Bio Bio and Itata have spent years relatively isolated, and disconnected from the modernization that transformed the rest of the Chilean wine industry. The vineyards of Itata lie on granitic mountains near the coast, located 500km South of Santiago. Steep slopes, a lack of proper roads, and forests have made the region notoriously difficult to visit, but has also created a time capsule of Chilean viticulture.
