Valdiguiandeacute;andnbsp;was originally planted in Napa under the impression that it was Gamay and given its vivid purple fruit we can understand the mistake. Pax Mahle has crafted a playful example of Valdigue with a bit of petiance or sparkle left in the wine. Its juicy and savory with deep purple fruit and tastes almost like a long lost cousin of Lambrusco. Great for an Aperitivo with some meat and cheese or for richer pastas.

This wine pisses me off it is so good. It is alive. I hate to kill it but I must for the job. Drink chilled. It’s peppers and flowers and pastilles and it prickles the tongue. There is perhaps a teeny hint of brett at the end. The pleasant type of grounds this dancing prancing enchanting wine.

No sulfites, quite dark and cloudy. Pretty nose of rose petals and wild berries. Really interesting palate. Slightly stemmy with crunchy red fruits

Berries and peppercorn dominant, tart raspberries and cranberries. Effervescent and zippy. Lots of fun to drink!

This was fine. Typical Valdiguie flavor profile, and a nice warm weather red. A bit overpriced for what it is, but enjoyable with a chill.

Pax is at his best making his magical Pax Syrah. I’ve had a few that are mind blowing, especially his single vineyards from the Wind Gap label. This Valdiguie is unfortunately sloppy. As Valdiguie is in vogue in California, everyone in Pax’s circle is coming out with a still or sparkling version (Cruse’s still is fantastic). This is a clunky water logged experimental garage wine. It’s sour with underripe blackberry and savory herb components that don’t seem to fit together.

Super juicy high acid fruit but with a surprising amount of body, heavy tannins pick up ok the finish. Fun and easy but lets it presence be known.

A little chill made this pop. Fun wine that went really well with grilled pizzas and warm night on the patio.
