To provide merely a few sentence-summation on the late Olga Raffault's story would be an injustice to her impact. Her story is compelling far beyond wine, so for brevity's sake, we'll focus on the wine. Olga's granddaughter, Sylvie, has taken the reins of the winemaking duties with her husband, Eric. Les Picasses is Raffault's most popular vineyard, producing Cabernet Franc that has a proven track record ofandnbsp;aging and improving gracefullyandnbsp;for decades. This comes from 50+ year old vines rooted in clay and limestone soil on a steep slope overlooking the Vienne River. Garnet in color, the earthy nose belies the politely rustic nature of the wine. On the palate, dark cherry, bell pepper, and black pepper make way for a stellar finish of fine tannins, minerality and pleasant acidity. A lively vintage for Picassesandnbsp;thatand#39;s a treat already but should find its full potential over the next 10 years. This wine is lovely with Peking Duck or Korean BBQ.andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp;

Second 375 ml bottle of the 2013 vintage this week. Green forest, pencil shavings, peppery, and sharp red fruits. Bone dry, tart, olives, herbal. Fruit plays second fiddle here. Quite tannic. Long finish that fades into a sustained cacao note.

Starts with a touch of funk. And rolls into very peppery charred cherry. Still bright and sharp. Would love to see what happens in 5 years but we couldn't resist our only two bottles.

Profoundly earthy, with a great helping of pyrazine. Restrained fruit- blackberry and raspberry, and a garden-full of freshly turned soil, herbs and spices. Great balance of acid and tannin. Rustic and compelling - curious to see where this goes in a few more years.

Floral with red and black fruits and exotic spices on the nose. Medium/plus acidity and firm tannins. Alcohol is medium with visible legs. Body is medium/plus. On the palate, notes of red cherries and cranberry with some spices and a long finish.
