Monte Bernardi Colli della Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2016

$29.99

Monte Bernardi is an estate helmed by Michael Schmelzter in the village of Panzano in Chianti Classico. Michael has been working to understand the history and traditions of Chianti for the last 20 years and produces some of the most exciting wines in the region.andnbsp; His land is farmed biodynamically and production in his winery is intentionally old school; Fermentations are conducted with native yeasts and aging always occurs in botti ranging in size from 10-50HL. This cuvee is from a 45-year-old vineyard planted to 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo andndash; typically it would be his Chianti Classico Riserva but the consorzio decided it did not have a deep enough color for a Riserva and forced him to declassify. The nose shows ripe black cherry with brambly berry fruit, spicy notes of cedar and allspice, and hints of rosemary. Elegant rather than heavy on the palate with ripe tannins and great acidity, the persistent cherry fruit leads into an earthy finish.andnbsp; Best served with a brief decant if possible. Try it with lamb, tomato sauces, rich pasta dishes, andnbsp;salumi, or hard cheese.

Delicious, unpretentious and a great value. Mouthwatering acidity, slightly rustic tannins, black cherries, earth, flowers and underbrush

Beautiful ruby/magenta color. Reductive horse stable at first. Opens up to chestnuts, garden herbs and wild raspberries on the nose. Bright, weightless, and so juicy. Some Va. Very very pretty Chianti.

This is technically not the Riserva because the DOCG would not allow because of the light color (???) but it would have been otherwise. Great value!

Not dark enough for the conzorsio, eh? Their loss, our gain. N: Big cherries and dirt, we’ll be nice and say souis bois.. P: Funk, Cherries, cranberry even, bright acidity and perfect tannins.Yumm An hour out of the gate/open, and this is much deeper on the nose and palate. Big black humus framed by bright acidity and tannic grip.

This fine Chianti didn’t make the conzorsoi’s cut for Chianti Classico Riserva in ‘16. WTF Deep dusty cherries , roses, bramble on the nose. Pure Sangiovese fruit on the palate, that dusty element returns with great acidity and healthy tannins. Wonderful. Thanks
