Popped and poured into red Solo cups; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2016 “Les P’tits Bouts” pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity with significant staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark brambles, animale, purple flowers, black pepper, black olive brine, dried green herbs, a kiss of warm spices and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is the oldest example I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy from Mickeäl Bourg, thus far. If this bottle is any indication as to the age-ability of his wines, well then he is most certainly one of the heirs apparent to the continued greatness of Cornas. This was straight up awesome. It had the feral, rustic bit a that I want in but with an element of sophistication that brings immense pleasure. Tres bien! Drink now through 2041.

The new kid on the block. Wow. What a nose. Stunning. Sick. The whole cluster and no new wood shows. Smells like classic stuff. Blackberry, cassis, smoke, leather, blueberry, big berry, lavender, so so floral, really really pungent and detailed. Mint, brown sugar and shows ripeness but also insane complexity. Palate is at once round and exhibits huge finesse but also shows super ripe fruit and stunning purity. Superb refinement and precision. This is so beautiful. Such fine tannins. This has the extra that makes it a top Cornas.

Nose is clean and offers black and red fruit, such as cassis, blackberry, plum, black cherry, raspberry, also violets, leather, animal, game, delicate smoke, earth, mushroom, tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, nutmeg, vanilla, and anise spice. Bright purple. Lively blueberry, cherry, licorice, olive paste and smoked meat scents are sharpened by a subtle mineral quality. Nose is cherry fruit with a hint of candy like a young port. Almost a whiff of raisin. Palate is fresh cherries with dried cranberries. Nice spice. A pleasant kiss of bitterness. Very fresh. Lingering spice and bitterness on the finish, almost like an amaro. No noticeable wood. A great drink young. Very distinctive
