Federica and Cesare Pino moved back to Mount Etna in 2005 to resurrect Cesare's family's masseria, the traditional Sicilian farmstead. Their goal was to be as self-sufficient as possible, growing olives, vegetables, and grains in addition to grapes. Over the years they have managed to develop a surplus of wine beyond what they need for personal use, something we are very grateful for. Cesare is crafting some of the most pure and elegant Etna wines we have encountered, from a small plot of vines planted over 100 years ago.andnbsp; The 2017 shows none of the heat of the vintage, instead displaying crunchy cherry fruit inflected with lavender, sage, and black tea.andnbsp; It's elegant and lifted on the palate with very fine tannins.andnbsp; Really one of the best Etna Rossos we tasted from the vintage (or any vintage for that matter).
