Virginian might not be the first state that leaps to mind when you think of American wine but more and more, we are finding delightful bottles here. Case and point is Lightwell Survey's The Weird Ones Are Wolves, a blend based on Cabernet Franc with Petit Manseng, Riesling, and Blaufrankish grown in the Shenandoah Valley. Low in alcohol and light in body it nevertheless captures the deeper side of the Cab Franc with sanguine, dark fruit streaked through by savory earthy notes.andnbsp; There is just a whisper of tannin on the palate lifted by crisp acidity with just enough structure to keep the wine from being simple porch pounder. Just about a perfect burger wine (especially if you are a fan of Lamb Burgers) this would also be great with a mushroom tart, roasted beets or root veggies, or a charcuterie plate.
