Koerner was founded by brothers Damon and Juno Koerner in the Clare Valley who decided to start making wine rather than simply selling the grapes off in bulk as their parents did.andnbsp; Their goal has always been to make wines that andldquo;reflect their place in the worldandrdquo; and believe the key is harvesting the fruit early and not being invasive in the winery.andnbsp; The Clare Valley sits higher in elevation and has cold nights which helps the wines maintain freshness. The Koerner 2017 Classico is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% each Malbec and Petit Verdot raised in large oak barrels for a year. This is astutely old-school Cabernet, the kind we are always on the hunt for no matter where it comes from.andnbsp; There is concentrated dark berry fruit with moist earth and tobacco notes but the wine clocks in at 13.1% alcohol and has wonderfully fresh acidity. andnbsp;andnbsp;Well mellowed oak and ripe tannins round out this lovey wine perfect for steak night or burgers.
