Királyudvar Sec Tokaji Furmint 2013

$22

Kiralyudvar, owned by the proprietors of Domaine Huet, has been a pioneer of dry wines in the Hungarian region of Tokaj, historically known for sweet wines. The fruit for this cuvee is sourced from their biodynamically farmed estate vineyards which are all historically important Grand Cru sites planted on volcanic soil. The grapes are hand harvested and gently pressed then fermented from native yeasts in large, old Hungarian oak casks. Volcanic minerality and brilliant acid give freshness and tension to the viscosity and lavish texture of Furmint.

Pear, lemon, bruised apple with a hint of plastic/tennis ball. Sweet, fresh and tart with a long flavorful finish.

A initial note of VA that will likely be off-putting to many. With air it mostly integrates and the wine weightless charms shine through.

One of the best Furmint Sec I've had, this wine wasn't always this good, whoever is pushing them forward is doing an amazing job, such great finesse/minerality/acidity, & all so naturally produced.

Green salty melon rind. Green and ripe, paradoxically. Sizzling acid that comes in wave like back and forth brushstroke a across the tongue. Layers of complexity. Without a doubt the 13' has years of life.

Giant tropical nose. Guava? Nice and tangy and dry on the palate. Mineral and acid.

Sadly, this was slightly corked. Still a nice quaff.

Just what I wanted. Good acidity. Lime, honey, creamyness. Definite influence from the Huet folks, which is cool.
