This wine is a real stunner. Classic Mosel slate profile from one of the oldest estates, founded in the 11th century by Carthusian Monks, now farmed by the same family for 6 generations. They are also unique among German wine growers for having a monopole, Karthauserhofberg, which is very uncommon in Germany, where vineyard ownership most closely resembles Burgundy. 2008 has enough development to tell its story while still showing youthful, electric energy. The wine is at once oily, rich, and layered while brimming with mouthwatering freshness and saline mineral flavors. Spatlese trocken at this quality level will rival most GGs for half the price.

Smoke, mineral and petrol makes this like standing next to a burning tiki torch while eating a slice of cold key lime pie. Bright acidity, bone dry, intense fruit flavors and long finish. Paired with Szechuan.
