Julian Haart is the brilliant young winemaker at his eponymous label, which since his inaugural 2011 release has been gaining acclaim and international attention. This rapid rise is unsurprising if you consider his mentors, Andreas Adam and Klaus Peter Keller among others, all living legends of German Riesling. The 1000L label was created in concert with Stephen Bitterolf, owner and founder of Vom Boden, the importer and supplier. The name comes from the size of barrel used to produce this wine, a style referred to as 'fuder' which contains 1000 Liters. Julian declassifies select parcels from his top vineyard holding to produce 1000L then Stephen buys the whole fuder's worth. The resulting wine is a stunning expression of classic Mosel terroir that is very evocative of the steep blue slate vineyards that Julian farms. Pure and crystalline fruit aromas are expertly framed by savory herb and mineral notes. The wine is bright and racy in the mouth while still giving an impression of weight and concentration that leads in to a dry, mouthwatering finish that exudes pure slate.
