Scott Schultz is on the short-list of winemakers to keep a close eye on in California. After stints at Pax, Wind Gap andamp; Arnot-Roberts, he is a one-man operation making some exciting stuff in Sebastopol. This Gamay comes from high elevation vineyards on the red granitic soils of the Sierra Foothills. Whole cluster fermentation lends an appealing lifted aspect. Effusively aromatic and delicious, this is a charming counterpoint to Beaujolais.
