Bessin has captured our attention over the past few vintages as an excellent source of exceptionally transparent, wildly classic Chablis, with wines that are capable of competing with some of the real stars of the appellation.andnbsp;Jean-Claude Bessinandnbsp;has now been joined full time by his son, Romain, and the future looks very bright at this biodynamic property. The Grand Cru Valmur vineyard sits nestled between Les Clos, Grenouilles andamp; Vaudesir, and the Bessinand#39;s work two hectares of mostly older vines here. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in tanks and barrel, of whichandnbsp;less than 10% is new. There is serious substance to their beautiful rendition of this top vineyard, all carried on a sharply defined frame. andquot;Bessinand#39;s stunning 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur opens in the glass with a complex bouquet of Meyer lemon, white flowers, peach, oyster shells, pastry cream and fresh mint. On the palate, itand#39;s full-bodied, satiny-textured and multidimensional, with broad shoulders, striking depth and concentration, racy acids and a long, searingly mineral finish. This bottling, which still flies under the radar compared to many of Chablisand#39;s finest wines, is well worth a special effort to seek out.andquot; -William Kelley
