Gernot Kollmann has become one of our favorite wine makers in the Mosel over the past few years. He took over his family's ancestral estate in 2009 and has been turning out low-intervention Rieslings from ancient vines that are some of the most vibrant and complex I've come across. The 1-hectare Batterieberg vineyard is one of the most prized sites Gernot works with, blasted out of the mother rock of grey slate with dynamite 150 years ago. This is intense Riesling, both mineral and savory with pungent fruit that is quite dry on the palate. We're very happy to have a bit of this special wine that is just starting to come into its own which will blossom over the next few years.

Pungently concentrated and mineral, intensely ripe, aggressively dry. Lacks elegance or finesse, plodding. Almost Pichler-like (not a compliment). Noting that it’s young, while true, feels like letting it off the hook. Shame, I usually really like these guys
