Aetneus is a dynamic wine from I Custodi crafted from ancient vines, some around 150 years old, planted albarello in a field blend.andnbsp; Classically the reds on Mount Etna are Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio but many of the old vineyards contain other varieties, occasionally including white grapes. andnbsp; This vineyard has a fair amount of Alicante planted, giving the wine a deeper and more brooding character that is shaded with smoky intensity.andnbsp; The minerality associated with the wines of Etna is still there but 2010 is just starting to peek out past grippy tannins and would be best with richer foods. A unique expression from Mount Etna that shows promise for years to come.

Bright fruit that is showing its age with some oxidative notes and a nice volcanic backdrop.

Smoke, flint, cherries, Seville orange, dried apricots. Deep and rich fruitiness along with mouth watering acidity and well integrated tannins. Great after taste. Time has made everything come together very nice in this bottle.
