Hatzidakis Winery Santorini Familia Dry Assyrtiko 2019

$39

Familia is Hatzidakisand#39; entry level Assyrtiko but is nevertheless a stunning example of the grape.andnbsp; This cuvee is drawn from a 15andndash;20-year-old plot of estate vines planted in the traditional basket training system of Santorini on their own roots. It is fermented with native yeast at a controlled temperature and aged for 5 months on the lees in steel.andnbsp; While Assyrtiko is never light this cuvandeacute;e always plays into a leaner and brighter side of the grape. the 2019 shows a bit of unctuous nectarine fruit alongside bright citrus with saline acidity on a medium bodied frame.andnbsp; Perfect for richer seafood such as scallops or fatty fish.

Always a hit. Deep with a mineral streak. Dried apricots, citrus blossom and candy on the nose. Great texture and ultimately crushable

Finally catching up to @Jason Keefer on this one. Seems more refined and balanced than other Santorini Assyrtikos. Light lemon and hints of salinity. But lacking that crisp bite (that you crave on a hot Greek day) found in other wines from Hatzidakis.
