Guy Breton Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2016 (3000ml)
Breton is one of Kermit Lynchand#39;s original gang of four in Beaujolais (along with Lapierre, Thevenet andamp; Foillard) but his wines seem to fly just under the radar of most Beaujolais obsessives. His are decidedly un-flashy, subtle expressions that show remarkable complexity and elegance and are always at their best when left to blossom for a few years in the bottle.

Delicious and elegant. Nose has wafty, gorgeous candied cherry fruit, granitic minerality, and a background note of barnyard funk to remind you this is not industrial Bojo. In the mouth it’s intensely flavorful but has a light feel and a silky texture. Beautifully pure fruit. Very nice, crisp acids.

Gorgeous aromas of crushed cherries and berries. Vivid cherry and crushed granite. Floral and so wispy. 100% gorgeous. Palate is rich and ripe with wonderful freshness and dazzling purity. So elegant and lovely freshness. So delicate and lip smacking. Just what I needed. Such gorgeous ripe tannins and amazing crunch. Stunning. 9.4.

So pure, intense cherry and minerals. Didn’t have the depth or complexity of the Metras, but wonderful on its own terms. Great acid and verve. Very fresh and fun, loved it with a slight chill.

Lurid ruby. A powerfully scented bouquet evokes primary red/blue fruits, incense and potpourri, and a hint of five-spice powder builds as the wine opens up. Juicy, concentrated and seamless in texture, offering sweet boysenberry, black raspberry and candied lavender flavors that show a suave blend of richness and energy. +2hr decant. Nose has abundant red fruits, minerally cherry, dried violet, light baking spice and white pepper. (I can't take my nose out of the glass, wow!) Palate has sweet red cherry, blackberry, ripe cranberry, tannins are light. I may be hard pressed to blind this and not think Pinot Noir... Great, young bottle from a spectacular vintage. A troubling season for many with severe frost leaving a very low yielding vintage for those able to make wine. The top cuveé for Breton, the P'Tit Max was not made in 2016. The fruit from the ancient vines of that vineyard were blended into the Vieilles Vignes bottling for this vintage. So drink and rejoice at how gifted we are for the VV bottle, with something extra for 2016! A thorough review by Delectable (Josh Raynolds) provides more description and adjectives of the wine characteristics then I can summon, seek it. Future bottles should be enjoyed 2024+
