Guillaume Gilles Cornas Syrah 2015

Gillesand#39; lovely wines from Cornas have been a serious revelation for us over the past few vintages. He studied under the legendary Robert Michel and now works Micheland#39;s top parcel in the Chaillotandnbsp;vineyard and makes his wines in Micheland#39;s old cellars. Though he does not list it on his label, this wine, his top cuvandeacute;e, is all from Chaillot. His methods in the cellar are staunchly traditional, but the wines themselves are as vibrant and energetic as Cornasandnbsp;comes. This and#39;15 at a recent tasting was coiled, buoyant and layered with great length and was surprisingly drinkable already.

Oh baby is this in the zone. Nose is incredible. Wafting aromas of black olive, black berry fruit with a crystalline purity to it. So dense. So aromatic. Just killing it. Wow. Stunning clarity. Had good luck with Gilles recently. Amazing palate. Just unreal fruit and it’s everywhere! Just saturates with granite infused juicy, lip smacking insanity. So dazzlingly pure. The granite expression is crazy. What a finish. So complex and has that extra that makes it a great vintage. Unreal depth and concentration. Holy shit. This is total genius.

Love me some Gilles . From higest parts of Chaillots vineyard. 2015 is awesome. Still young with dark fruit, dark cherry, plum with back palate of lingering black pepper starting to come out. Inviting tannins paired with Cacio e Pepe. I cant quite put my finger on it. But theres something very Italian about this appellation.
