#2004 was a banner year in #Piemonte and this gorgeous #Nebbiolo still needed plenty of time to breathe before our main course... #decanting a day prior would have been optimal. A luscious, supple, truly hedonistic #Barolo style that shows great intensity, concentration and depth of flavor! The aromas that burst forth from the glass are the essence of blackberries and wild game. This remarkable wine is in absolutely no danger of fading anytime soon... rather it has years of life ahead of it--BRAVO!

This changed from a wall of tannins, to something almost watery and then to a fairly complex Nebbiolo. This, at 14, is still pretty darn young. Give it a 4 hour decant. A fine birthday wine after all.

This is awesome Nebbiolo! Still very young with many years of development ahead. Cherry, rose, tar, tobacco. Very deep still with good tannins 14 years on. A great vintage from a great producer! Worth the money!

What a Barolo should be. Smooth silky tar and roses. Full but not astringent.

Favourite from the tasting. Beautiful nose of red fruits and some earthy smokey notes. Great finesse and balance, which makes it delicious now and probably a keeper for years to come

Gaja Sperss has only been a delight and the 2004 was a powerful reminder why. Delicious and complex with a developing intensity as we progressed through the bottle. Blackberry, earth and somehow a light tannin.

I wish I could taste this wine in another 10 years. Lively but tight, floral and leathery. As this opened up it became more and more approachable. So delicious and a perfect example of an excellent Barbaresco.
