Flavio Roddolo Ravera Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

$90

Flavio Roddolo has become one of our most treasured sources of no-frills bottles from Piedmont. Roddoloandnbsp;works his six hectares of vines in the hills outside Monforte with an immense amount of skill and devotion. His wines are stirring, soulful and singular, the product of a master in harmony with his surroundings. His are not wines to bowl you over with bravado or charm. They speak frankly and clearly of their place and they draw you in gradually, with strength and conviction but never with force. Once they have your attention, they are impossible to forget. If you are a lover of rock solid traditional Piemontese wines, you will find it is simply a matter of time before your admiration for these wines becomes an obsession. From 30+ year old vines in Ravera di Monforte, which is quite close to the famous Ginestra and not far from Cerretta. Fermentation is done in stainless steel and the wine is aged for 24 months in old barrels of all sizes. 250 cases produced. This is tarry, leathery andamp; broad at present, with aandnbsp;eucalyptus note lending lift and freshness.andnbsp;

Simone Pizzi

Tasted at the estate with the owner, it has been an emotional explosion. It's hard to describe... Authentic, elegant and complex, although still young this wine is pure emotion, with an endless aftertaste that favours meditation. The vines are grown according to respectful and natural methods, Flavio is a true depositary of piedmontese ancestral viticulture. The vineyard itself is idyllic, bursting with biodiversity and showing all the mastery of the man who works it. The winemaking technique is traditional, slow, the cellar is carved in the tuff soil, extra humid with the bare stone still visible. For me it is a perfect match
