Tempier has attained almost mythical status at this point. Kermit Lynch, who has imported these wines since the late 70's, considers Tempier to be the cornerstone of his entire portfolio. The Peyraud family certainly turn out one of the most impressive rosandeacute;s of the region each year, but their reds from Bandolandnbsp;are equally as important. These are gutsy, stirring, classic wines that you'll find in great cellars and on top wine lists all over the globe.

This is a glimpse into the marvelous potential of Mourvèdre. Dark fruited with some cherry, spices and a bit of a floral component that makes it really rather charming. I want to try this with more age on it but gosh, there’s already a lot to like.

Domaine Tempier may well be the most famous name in Bandol, so much so that it's difficult to discern if they're more beloved for their rosé or their rouge, both of which have earned diehard followings. Tempier is also one of the few Bandol wineries to craft a suite of single vineyard bottlings. Their entry level red, however, is what you'll more frequently encounter - and it always delivers. To sum up the wine in a word? Spice. Seductive and piquant, it tastes of anise, ginger, spice cake, cassis, and black plum. Streamlined and pure, the wine also merits praise for its chalky texture and tannic structure that provide this Bandol such tremendous longevity. 75% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsaut, 2% Carignan.

Black fruit still marked. The alcooleous character begins to fade, letting out rich and varied notes of evolution. 2015 has the potential for several years (Decades?) in the cellar. Fruit noir encore marqués. Le caractère alcooleux commence à s’estomper laissant poindre des notes d’évolution riches et variées. Beau moment de plaisir. 2015 a le potentiel pour plusieurs (Décennies?) de garde.

Young & exuberant. Picks up complexity on both nose and palate on day 2. Shows the expected black pepper & dark plum notes, but some savory complexity enters as it breathes. Not much else to be said, one of the world’s greatest producers of truly great wines.
