Romain Taupenot and his sister, Virginie, are the seventh generation in charge at Taupenot-Merme. The style at this historic domaine is all about purity and infusion rather than power andamp; extraction. Their wines show typicity and understated class across their impressive range. Combe d'Orveau(x) is a vineyard that holds a very special place in our hearts thanks to the wonderful examples we've encountered over the years from Bruno Clavelier. Bruno is the largest owner in the Combe, with a little less than a hectare of vines, but the Taupenot family own just .4ha of 60+ year old vines in this special vineyard. It abuts the famousandnbsp;Musigny, and, like Clos St. Jacques in Gevrey, it can often outperform some of the very best vineyards in Burgundy, Grand Cru included. Top wines from here are routinely of Grand Cru quality, though not in name (and thankfully for all of us, not in price). The and#39;14 isandnbsp;a compelling, irresistibly delicious example that is showing tons of appeal already. Really bright fruits carried on a nice midweight frame with some saline, lifted acidity on the finish that keeps everything especially pinned together. andnbsp;

2014 vintage. Decanted and chilled down slightly. Great cork. Smoky, reductive nose interspersed with dark plum. Medium body since this had shed the T-M winter coat. Raspberry, rhubarb and cranberry large and in charge initially but came back into the fold in due time with some forest floor and spearmint finishing touches/accents. Well knit. Absolute gamer and willing to be thrilling now and for the next 8-10 years. Showing so nicely. 4.18.26.

First experience with Taupenot Merme. La Combe d’Orveau has parts that should have been classed grand cru and it shows here. Beautiful dark rubi robe followed by rose fanee and spices on the nose, very balanced and fresh in the mouth with all the Chambolle you can expect plus some Vosne spices. Long and crafted finish, really excellent wine that you should wait another 3 to 4 years for the best it can deliver. Highly recommended !!!
