From one of the King’s of Rhône, JL Chave, and from the great ‘03 vintage. A real pleasant surprise how well this showed. A true representation of terroir and it’s region. Still alive and well and maybe not even peaked. Animalistic, powerful and intense. Black fruits, camphor, dried herbs and spices. Really impressive depth and complexity. Finishes with excellent length as well. Thrilling.

Another "last" bottle that was found in a corner of the cellar. Brighter fruit than might be imagined considering the vintage. Jammy, peppery red raspberry and cassis with a backbone of warm asphalt. It is a bit too ripe on palate with dried berry flavors accented by salt cured black olives. Would have be better 2 or 3 years ago but still really tasty.

Nose is more on the fruit than the spice. Nice aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum fruit. Hints of graphite, road tar and soy. Ripe lush fruit tannins in palate. Lacks a touch of brightness on mid palate due to vintage. Ready to drink and fantastic with braised lamb shoulder.
