Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2016

$189

Tasted, as usual, in components. #1) Les Lezards: bright red fruit, flowers and spices; seamless texture and a zesty mineral overtone that builds with air. #2) Gerine: smoke-accented blue fruits and plush texture; round and weighty with a jolt of pepper adding back-end spiciness and cut. #3) Fontgeant: hugely aromatic, showing intense, mineral-driven medicinal cherry and floral character, a hint of olive and strong back-end thrust. #4) Candocirc;te Baudin and Moutonne: deep and rich, showing powerful black and blue fruit qualities and a candied licorice flourish. Plenty of weight here and an intensely spicy back half. #5) Moutonne, Candocirc;te Rozier, Candocirc;te Blonde and Rochains: sexy, mineral-tinged red and blue fruits and candied flowers on the nose; sweet and seamless in texture, with sneaky tannins adding framework and final grip. #6) Fontgeant, Bonniviandegrave;re, Tartaras and Leyat: vibrant and sharply focused, showing intense, mineral-tinged blue fruit and floral qualities and an exotic Asian spice overtone; the mineral note dominates with air. #7) Le Plomb: hugely aromatic, displaying red fruit preserve, incense and exotic spice qualities, silky texture and impressive power as well as a delicate finishing touch. #8) La Landonne: wild, expansive dark berry liqueur, olive and licorice qualities and serious heft and breadth; livelier with air, but this is a massive bruiser. The final wine should show Jametand#39;s typical blend of power and finesse and it also looks to be a more brawny wine than many other and#39;16s from the appellation, displaying some of the richness that I associate with the 2015s.

First time tasting Jamet and enjoyed it! We had the wine decanted but it still needed an hour to clear out the smoked meat reduction. Opened up into lovely red fruit and great acid driven energy

Yes, you can still see some new oak in the wine, but it doesn't detract from how elegant the 16' Jamet Cote-Rotie is. The wine is incredibly detailed at this point and such a joy to sip on. Very perfumed nose, which evolved rapidly in the glass with air - fresh mix of red and black fruits, licorice, cedar, spice (garam masala comes to mind), violets, hints of olive and leather. The palate is so fine and juicy with silky tannins and just enough acidity to keep you going. Long and focused finish, saturated in minerality and florals. Absolutely irresistible at the moment, but I can definitely see the rewards in cellaring this.

Let breath for 2 days. Still could have used a 3rd but we are impatient. Deep dank sensual purple fruited powerhouse. Wanted to sit with this wine for hours. Each sip revealed more of its complex bouquet. Tannins got the best of us and had to move back to white wine. Thx Cerasulo.

My first Jamet and I now an official fawning groupie. Very young and still coiled tightly, but the salty, meaty, earthy flavours are all announcing themselves confidently. The acid is prominent but the mouthfeel is amazing. Punching hard but without weight. +2-3pts in 10yrs. Yum
