When mature Jamet are on they’re sooo good. ‘98 is gorgeous tonight and even less evolved than a prior bottle. There’s such balance and clarity to its haunting richness wafting complex aromatics of deep blackberry fruit, smoked meats, camphor and black truffle with an elegant, satiny palate, melting tannins and a stunningly long mineral and savory finale. For my tastes, at its peak!

When Jamet with age is on it’s really on. ‘98 is showing beautifully tonight, fully open and giving wafting seductive and perfumed aromatics of ripe blackberry fruit, smoked meats, camphor and exotic spices with an elegant, satiny palate with melting tannins and a stunningly long finale. Beautiful wine, and for my tastes at its peak.

From the Rata wine list in Queenstown. Label and capsule indicates it's a recent release from the Domaine. Opened, decanted and poured. Deep dark ruby. Opaque. Wow nose. Notes of blackberries, currant, cherry, smoke and anise. Velvet texture in the mouth. Tannins nicely resolved leaving lots of rich fruit; developing great secondary characteristics. Silky. Amazing right out of the gate and over 2 hours at the table.
