Domaine de Marquiliani Vin de Corse Rosé Gris de Marquiliani 2017

$29.99

On the eastern coast of Corsica, you'll find Aghione, a tiny village of 235 inhabitants, which is home to the terraced vineyards of Marquiliani, farmed by the Amalric family since the 1950's. Here the flatland rises into the Corsican mountains creating a terroir that has enjoyed a legacy of great wine growing for centuries. The schist and granite soils along with cool nights and high altitude create the ideal environment for growing grapes capable of producing memorable, energetic wines with a distinct sense of place, particularly from the skilled hands of Anne Amalric. Gris de Marquiliani is the embodiment of this potential: lithe, energetic, and like the importer, Kermit Lynch, describes andldquo;like drinking a cloudandrdquo;. The 2 hectares of Sciaccarellu and Syrah vines selected to produce this cuvee are in cooler microclimate than the neighboring parcels and are picked 15 days later, all hand harvested. The grapes are pressed and then decanted for 72 hours to allow the gross lees to settle before fermentation which finishes without malolactic, preserving the tension in this haunting, harmonious specimen.

Stuck inside and dreaming of better days abroad or just in a backyard with friends? This wine helped me take a little escape to the island of Corsica, the home of the one and only Napoleon Bonaparte. This is one of 2 amazing rose wines from Marquiliani. This was my first Gris rose from Marquiliani and it's been a few years since I hade the regular rose. Domaine Marquiliani is one of the top producers of wine (and olive oil & almonds) on the island and are a small family owned and operated by Anne Amalric and her father Daniel who founded the modern history of this winery in the 1950s. Pale and watery in color, this is the "Gris" rose. Gorgeous notes of pink citrus, jasmine florals, minerals and fennel seed, no doubt from the high dose of Syrah in the blend. The wine grew tremendously in the glass and after an hour it was firing on all cylinders. Elegant on the palate with a stunning density and length on the nose. Pure and refreshing, it appealed to both the intellectual and hedonistic side of my tastes. Gorgeous, buying more ASAP! . - 50% Sciaccarellu, 40% Syrah, 10% Vermentino - 2 ha of vines in schist and granite gravel with silt soils, planted 1964 - direct press rose and cold-soaked for 72 hours!! - fermented in stainless and sees NO Malo #marquiliani #corsica #corsicanwine #rose #rosewine #winesolutions #wine #winelover #somm #sommelier #naturalwine #vinnaturel #winegeek #winetasting #ilovewine #apexwinesolutions #instawine #winestagram

This delicious Rosé has the slightest tint of salmon pink to it....the body is Medium+ and lush!! Tastes of strawberries..honeydew and savory herbs! Acidity is medium and renders a nice long finish! I would say this is the second best Rosé for me! I nice selection from Kermit Lynch...unfortunately the last time I checked it was no longer available..
