Weand#39;ve mentioned many times that Brunoand#39;s name deserves to be considered among the very best of the Cote de Nuits, but we should also mention that the premier cru Combe dand#39;Orveaux, like Clos St. Jacques in Gevrey, can often outperform some of the very best vineyards, grand cru included. It is routinely of grand cru quality, though not in name (and thankfully for all of us, not in price). Because of its extra dimensions of depth and complexity and its exceptional longevity, andnbsp;Bruno considers Combe dand#39;Orveaux his tandecirc;te de cuvandeacute;e in many vintages, even though he has grand cru holdings. According to Bruno, who is the largest landowner in the vineyard, andnbsp;his family vines could have been reclassified as Musigny, which sits just next door, but his grandfather chose not to push the issue when the boundaries were being drawn because of the higher taxes that would have been imposed on his production.

Fantastic. I hear 2006s are closed, but not this one. Long life ahead.

A complex glass with plenty to offer. A mix of fruits on the nose with a mint field and underbrush. Bruised strawberries on the palate, with nice length. Still heavy on tannin.

This charming bottle was on tonight. Wonderful fruit and perfume with the mineral and acid drive right there as well. Flavors just kept unfolding all within a beautiful little package of balance.
