Bernard and his son, andnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;Baudry are relative newcomers by the standards of this ancient wine center, but this only makes it that much more remarkable how highly their status has risen in recent times. Bernard started theandnbsp;domaineandnbsp;in the 70and#39;s and pieced together an enviable collection of top parcels across theandnbsp;appellation, butandnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;runs the show here now that Bernard has retired. Balance is king at thisandnbsp;domaine, and though the wines can be dense and powerful, these are also, as their NY importer points out, andquot;precise, textured Chinon.andquot; This bottling comes from Le Clos Guillot, a vineyard planted between 1993-2000 on a parcel of land that had been abandoned since World War 2.andnbsp;Black fruits, tobacco andamp; spice dominate the nose, while on the palate the wine is silky and exceptionally pretty. Considering the ripeness of the vintage, this wine is very young, and really starts to shine a few hours after opening. The wine will blossom handsomely with sometime in the cellar if youand#39;re inclined to lay it down.

Half bottle. Medium purple color. Extremely green nose as this is very young. Nice depth, but minimal fruit. Paired nicely with tacos. Lovely texture. Medium minus finish.
