Domaine Bernard Baudry Le Clos Guillot Chinon Cabernet Franc 2013

$29.99

Bernard and his son, Matthieu Baudry (above) are relative newcomers by the standards of this ancient wine center, but this only makes it that much more remarkable how highly their status has risen in recent times. Bernard started the domaine in the 70and#39;s and pieced together an enviable collection of top parcels across the appellation, but Matthieu runs the show here now that Bernard has retired. Balance is king at this domaine, and though the wines can be dense and powerful, these are also, as their NY importer points out, andquot;precise, textured Chinon.andquot; Closandnbsp;Guillotandnbsp;comes from some of the younger vines of the domaine (15+ years) planted on limestone, sand and gravelly soils. It sees fermentation in large wooden vats and is aged in old barriques. This is always one of the most charming wines in the Baudry stable and is a perfect bottle for near/mid term drinking.andnbsp;

Initially sharp and tough, but eventually the fruit balances the spice nicely.

Something is strange. Too much acidity. Unbalanced in general. Probably too young but I don't feel any great potential for development. Courious to share this 2013 opinion with you.
