Domaine Bernard Baudry La Croix Boissée Chinon Blanc Chenin Blanc 2012

Bernard and his son, andnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;Baudryandnbsp;(above) are relative newcomers by the standards of this ancient wine center, but this only makes it that much more remarkable how highly their status has risen in recent times. Bernard started theandnbsp;domaineandnbsp;in the 70and#39;s and pieced together an enviable collection of top parcels across theandnbsp;appellation, butandnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;runs the show here now that Bernard has retired. Balance is king at thisandnbsp;domaine, and though the wines can be dense and powerful, these are also, as their NY importer points out, andquot;precise, textured Chinon.andquot; This is an especially rare Chinon Blanc from Chenin Blanc vines planted in the limestone soils at the top of the Croix Boissandeacute;e vineyard. Itand#39;s a nervy, tightly knit and intensely mineral wine in its youth but opens up beautifully once it hits its stride.

On a quiet phase now, less aromatic than 4 months ago - time to lay it down

One of my perennial top 3 chenins. Would be insane in 10 years. I've never had the patience to keep one longer than a couple of years.

This might be the first Chinon blanc I've tasted? Musky and pretty

Chiseled, citrusy and chalk. Tightly wound. Needs air/time but great
