Bernard and his son,andnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;Baudry are relative newcomers by the standards of this ancient wine center, but this only makes it that much more remarkable how highly their status has risen in recent times. Bernard started theandnbsp;domaineandnbsp;in the 70and#39;s and pieced together an enviable collection of top parcels across theandnbsp;appellation, butandnbsp;Matthieuandnbsp;runs the show here now that Bernard has retired. Balance is king at thisandnbsp;domaine, and though the wines can be dense and powerful, these are also, as their NY importer points out, andquot;precise, textured Chinon.andquot; This wine is always one of the most highly anticipated of the rosandeacute; season. It comes from 20 year old Cab Franc vines planted on gravelly soils over about 2ha. Itand#39;s lightly spiced, delicate and extremely refreshing, but can also perform beautifully in the cellar if youand#39;re the patient type.andnbsp;andnbsp;

Glistening orange-pink. Vibrant, mineral-accented strawberry, cherry, pink grapefruit and floral scents are complemented by a spicy white pepper accent. Intense red berry and bitter orange pith flavors show sharp delineation and an appealingly light touch. Closes floral and long, displaying firm tension and resonating minerality. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, August 2019)
