Quite reductive. Very focused red fruits, crunchy and tart. Meaty, smoky, mineral aromas. Excellent tannic grip and tension on the palate. There’s an almost feral character that I’m liking. Good value in a somewhat unusual category.

2nd bottle couple weeks later. Much better. Bright, red fruit. Red currant, raspberry. Gassy, but so far not Bretty. Tad reduced.

2021/11. This bottle started off a bit more herbal and austere, perhaps suggesting that it might be closing - but with a bit of air over a few hours, the savory, sweet and sour red fruit blossomed again, if anything suggesting it’s on the brink of its second phase

2020 spring / summer. This bottle was more primary than the other recent 2016 but as enjoyable as ever.

202 spring / summer. I wonder if my ratings are suffering from inflation, but the truth is often I would be happy doing all of my drinking from de Villaine’s range. This particular Fortune was notably more developed than the 2017 or 18, in a good way - lots of woodsy complexity over the brighter berry fruit.

Very well made. Aromatics and structure very present and buzzing. Calling whole bunch fermentation on this which showed prominently after a few days, not in a bad way, but definitely perceiving in this tasting the stark difference between de stemmed and some amount of stem inclusion.
