Clos De La Roilette Cuvée Tardive Fleurie Gamay 2018

$26.99

Wines will arrive in late 2019. This cuvee is sourced from the oldest vines of the estate, some up to 80 years old, and is best enjoyed with some bottle age, hence the name Tardive. As on the rest of the estate, the Tardive vines are farmed sustainably, and the soils plowed twice a year. The fruit is manually harvested and fermented in whole clusters with native yeasts in open-top, neutral wood vats with the cap kept submerged for 18 days. Aging takes place in old foudres until bottling the following summer.

Not ready. Maybe in 3 years the tannins will integrate, but right now it’s not drinking like a bojo. Reminds me of the ‘15 vintage.

This Fleurie had quite a bit more body and extraction that the Domaine Chapel. I think that this might need a few more years in the bottle to truly shine. It seemed a bit disjointed at this point.

Eggplant and rubarb, lots of funky fruits. A bit of earth and tartness on the finish. Young but good!
